First Impression/Photos

So when I first saw this thing I was quick to draw a conclusion: cheap knock off on the Samsung gear 2.  When I actually watched some reviews and tutorials, I got exited because it looked pretty good.  I then bought it from GearBest for about $70.  It took about a month to get here and since then the price has dropped to about $60 (8/6/2015).  I have some photos below:

...

Pros/Cons

Pros

  • Battery Life is pretty good
  • Comfortable to wear
  • Easy to charge
  • Almost an exact replica of the Gear 2
  • Can easily block notifications from apps that will spam the watch like Maps for example
  • Compatible with any Gear 2 watch band

Cons

  • Only 3 apps (Yahoo Weather, Codoon, Digital Watch Face)
  • Companion app (Mediatek) uses battery in background
  • Some notifications get spammed so you are forced to block them (EX. Maps)
  • Sometimes notifications are sent twice (only seems to happen with Gmail)
  • IR Blaster doesn't work
Most of the cons are just small problems that don't affect the day to day use of the watch and most users won't find to be too big of a problem.

Review

Now for the part you have all been waiting for: the review!  So, I have owned this watch for a little over a month now and I have been wearing it all day everyday.  The notification system works really well which keeps me up to date on all of my notifications.  On medium usage, I usually get about 2 days of battery life.  I haven't really used the power saving mode because I haven't needed to but, I'm sure it works.  I usually use the default watch face (with the apps on the bottom) because I love having the digital clock face and the quick access to the apps.  Sadly you can't move around the icons to put what you use most on that tray but the default ones are pretty good (Camera, Pedometer, Settings).  This watch does most everything that I wanted it to do except sync up pedometer with google fit or S Health.  Otherwise all of the features work pretty well and I love the watch!

  2. Hi Sam,
Thanks for the APK. My beef with my G2 is that, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to install the latest firmware. I've downloaded it, I get the correct scatter file. My G2 is regonised by the PC but when I click "start" to perform the upgrade the process counter stays at 0%. I've tried it with the watch on and off. I tried Marco's (XDA) suggestion to hold the power key down...nothing, nada. I know the watch is connected as the flash tool says I have the correct chip and my PC beeps to say that a USB device is connected. When I connect the watch to USB with it on, a menu comes up saying "mass storage" and "Com port". I hit Com port and the watch says "not allow". Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong???

    1. I had very similar problems when I tried to update the firmware on my watch. I was never able to get mine to update either. I'm assuming that you have read the readme.txt that comes with the upgrade software. I would recommend unplugging the watch from the computer, restarting the computer, plug the watch into a DIFFERENT USB port so that it will attempt to re-install driver software, then open the update software and try to update again.

      Hopefully that works.

  3. Google drive is saying the APK file is infected with a virus and its not downloadable anymore.. need a new link, just got this watch, always wanted it,I got it half price,£24.99 bran new,so it was the only one on ebay at the time.I like it,I got It cos I have gone through about 4 Chinese watches cos they are not waterproof. The last watch I got before this one was a clone of the Apple watch, but thats not waterproof too so that got wet and but manage to get it on the radiator quick enough to save it from short circuiting.I did get 2 other watches too that look like this one but the strap were different and the straps on them watches break at the base of the watch where the strap connect to the watch, they are about £12 now and if you see them of ebay and you will, stay away from them they are crap.Another thing on why I got this watch is cos of it strap ,it uses the same strap as the SG2 Neon.well it would it a clone of it.

You have to say thanks to Star Trek for these watches cos if you look at the first film they made,Star Trek: The motion Picture,it was made in 1979 and guest we would be using them in the future..:)
